(February 13, 2006) – From a red-carpet overflowing with celebrities
to the exhilarating performances of Erykah Badu and
Common (pictured middle left), Grammy Nominee
Fall Out Boy, Ne-yo, Big Daddy Kane,
YoYo, Mike Elizondo, Wendy & Lisa, Warren G, Doyle Bramhall, Martin
Luther, Talib Kweli, David Banner, and Snoop Dogg (pictured
bottom left) to the hysterical comedy of Dave Chappelle
– The Grammy Award-winning Roots crew, successfully delivered
another year of the hottest ticket and most electrifying night of Grammy
week.
On Tuesday, Febuary 7th, THE ROOTS, regarded as the
country’s premier hip-hop band, hosted their third annual Jam
Session in West Hollywood, co-hosted by Black Thought,
Dave Chappelle, and Don Cheadle (pictured top left)
in association with LIVE FOR DARFUR. The live experience
was presented by Dave Chappelle’s Block Party
and produced by Tina Farris of Goodtime Girl Productions and Kevin Seldon
of Keldof
Marketing.
The theme of the night was "EVERYman Can Make a Difference"
launching of nationwide
awareness campaign for Darfur, and with the help of title
everyman sponsors like Bacardi Limón, American
Apparel, MSN Spaces, and AXE bodyspray; the
live, five-hour jam attracted an impressive list of Who’s Who
in the entertainment industry - all documented by Oscar-Winning filmmaker,
Michel Gondry. High-profile attendees included Queen
Latifah, Beyonce, Will.I.Am, B2K, Jeremy Piven,
India Arie, Nikka Costa, Bill Maher, Bai Ling, Incubus,
Alicia Keys, Devon Aoki, Dallas Reeves, Chris Tucker,
Digable Planets, Nick Cannon, Danny Glover, Taraji Henson
(Hustle and Flow), Cedric the Entertainer, Farnsworth Bentley, Spike
Lee, and Def Jam Recordings president and CEO Shawn “Jay-Z”
Carter.
THE ROOTS
are: Black Thought (MC), ?uestlove (MD), Lenoard "Hub"
Hubbard (bass) and Kamal Gray (keyboards). Support musicians include
Frankie Knuckles (percussion), and world renowned Captain Kirk (guitar).

Cheadle and Djimon Hounsou that rallies high-profile talent, including
Coldplay, Carlos Santana, Destiny’s Child, Norah Jones, Annie
Lennox, and other top artists to help raise awareness of the crisis
in the Darfur region of the Sudan. LIVE FOR DARFUR's participation in
the event was co-organized by Red Carpet Media Partners for the 501(c)3
non-profit Save Darfur
Coalition.
